"I can see", its taken as granted by most of humans. Viewing the world through pair of eyes is very different that observing the world by ears! It is not possible for me to imagine a world with no color, perhaps black, or maybe event vacant!
But I am convinced that Rev. Gray Davis could see the colorful world through his music. He was able to see more colors than most of us, otherwise such colorful songs would not have been sang by him.
This piece for me is the expression of observing color through something but eyes; touching the frets of the guitar, or clavier of the piano. Each note has a different tone, and different color. And I -the listener- am able to see those colors only through listening to the majestic creation of artists such as Rev. Gray Davis.

Mississippi John Hurt
The story of John Hurt's life and his choice of life style, whether intentionally chosen or dramatically applied is fascinating.
I can imagine him being in his mid twenty's and working in a farm, sharecropping and murmuring songs all day along! Being exited and motivated by the hope to finish the work, and have a pleasant time, maybe alone by a creek or at his cabin porch with his companion, playing his guitar and singing along!
I have the experience of working in a farm when I was 10 years old, I spend the summer in a village close to home worked with local villagers on the harvest season! Despite the use of modern day machinery, the work was back-breaking. But the excitement of walking back home, barefoot in the river to cool of my worn off legs was so motivating I could not let it pass!
When something so simple as a short pleasure in the cool water can be so motivating for me, I can not imagine how John Hurt's day would pass!

Mississippi Juhn Hurt
I was almost done with this week's image! Just some minor effects in the face and would be what I wanted! An authentic poster of a country blues singer I saw in a bar inspired me to do this poster. But as I was browsing the web this morning, I came across the word "sharecropping".
I looked the word up and realized its a tradition in Midwest among farmers and land owners.
I started to imagine John Hurt cropping cotton and singing along since he also was a farmer. Golden land of harvest season and farmers under the sun. This image is so powerful in my mind that I actually would like to paint and bring it to the class today!
